Halloween is the highlight of my favorite time of year which happens to be Fall! I love to decorate my home with pumpkins, mums, and cute but slightly creepy ghosts and ghouls. We like to celebrate the fun in Halloween but try to stay clear of the morbid stuff.
This week I got some free time to head into the kitchen and create some fun & easy Halloween Decorated Oreo treats. These easy to make, semi-homemade baked goods are perfect for those of you who might be hosting or attending a Halloween bash and need a party favor.
Perhaps you need to take a sweet treat with you? Well, if so, these Halloween Candy Covered Oreos are perfect for you all! They are quick to make and can be made even faster if you can find the black candy wafers (I could not).
Since I had some spare time and ambition (two rarities) I decided to follow the suggestions of the craft store and buy the white candy melting wafers and black food gel. Supposedly, these two items were the magic touch to making black melting candy covered Halloween Oreos.
After getting my candy to a creamy consistency, I decided to start adding the black food gel in toothpicks worth quantities– big mistake!
I not only made a huge mess of my hands, but I got black smudges everywhere and my candy was only greyish purple.
75 percent of the bottle later and I finally has some blackish melting candy. It was pretty dark but took on a slightly purple hue. This actually worked because it is a Halloween shade, but let me tell you –try to find black candy wafers if you can–save yourself the headache!
These came out cute so I figured I would share my story with you all. But, I am all about the more simpler things in life, and will next time search high and low for black wafers next time!
Regardless, if you only have the white wafers and black food gel on-hand, get prepared to use nearly the entire bottle of gel!
One 12 ounce bag of melting wafers produced 15 Oreos- if you need to do larger batches, you will surely need more product!
To break up the black candy, I decorated with some colored Halloween sprinkles and some candy eyes. You really cannot go wrong with candy eyes which add a fun eye of newt effect!
Overall, my kids loved these Candy Covered Halloween Oreos and I plan on making more throughout the Halloween season.
