Whether you need an effortless lunch, a 15-minute dinner, or a heavy-duty after-school snack, these sandwiches deliver a full-blown pizza party in a fraction of the time. The best part is, these are approved by over 100 kids that were in my culinary class last year!

Why We Love These
Ultimate Convenience: Borden American Cheese Melts are the ultimate convenience staple. They are made with real milk and cream, leading to better meltability and creaminess for the TASTIEST grilled cheese.
Guaranteed Kid-Approved: Kids get all the bold, fun flavors of a pepperoni pizza party combined with the familiar, ultra-creamy comfort of a grilled cheese sandwich.
The Perfect No-Mess Hold: Building a “cheese shield” with Borden American Cheese Melts traps the marinara sauce squarely in the middle, keeping the bread crispy and making it easy for little hands to hold without a soggy mess.
Foolproof Crunch: The double-buttering technique ensures the bread hits melted butter on both sides, yielding a uniform, shatteringly crisp, golden-brown crust every single time.

The Secret Grilled Cheese Weapon: Borden American Melt Slices
For a loaded grilled cheese, Borden American Melt Slices are the ultimate choice. They are specially crafted to melt flawlessly into a smooth, velvety blanket, acting like a built-in “glue” to hold the whole sandwich together beautifully.
How to Layer It (To Maximize Cheesiness)
Building this sandwich in a specific order is the secret to the best pepperoni pizza grilled cheese.
- Layer 1: The Base (Borden American Melts) Put your first slice directly onto the bottom piece of bread. This creates a barrier so the sauce won’t make your bread soggy.
- Layer 2: The Filling (Sauce & Pepperoni) Spread a thin spoonful of marinara or pizza sauce right over the slice, then lay down your pepperoni.
- Layer 3: The Fresh Touch (Herbs) Sprinkle some finely chopped fresh basil or oregano on top. The heat will gently wilt the herbs, releasing great flavor.
- Layer 4: The Lid (Borden American) Add a second slice over the herbs before putting the top piece of bread on.
Why the “Double-Layer” Method Works
By putting a slice of Borden American on the top and the bottom, you create a pop of pizza flavor in a cheesy pocket. As it melts beautifully from both sides, it fuses together right in the middle.
The result? A gorgeous, gooey sandwich where the sauce, pepperoni, and herbs are locked firmly in place—meaning less mess on the plates (and the floor!) to clean up.

Layering the Cheese
If you’ve ever had a pizza sandwich turn into a soggy, falling-apart mess, it’s usually because the sauce soaked right into the bread. To make this easy for little hands to hold without the mess, we build a “cheese shield”.
By putting down a slice of Borden American Cheese Melts first, you create a thick, gooey barrier that traps the marinara sauce perfectly in the center. Because Borden Melts have a perfectly smooth, rapid melt, they liquefy beautifully in just a few quick minutes, locking the pepperoni and sauce safely inside the sandwich.

Kitchen Tip: Put down the chef’s knife! Grab your kitchen shears and snip your fresh basil leaves directly over the pepperoni. It cleanly cuts the herb without turning it black, hiding those fresh green bursts right inside the cheese so even picky eaters won’t pick them out.

Ingredients
- Bread: Thick, kid-friendly white bread or Texas Toast provides the perfect sturdy base to hold the heavy pizza layers without getting soggy.
- Butter: Salted or unsalted butter, divided evenly to coat the pan for both sides, ensuring a completely uniform, golden-brown crunch.
- Borden American Cheese Melts: The star of the show; chosen for its quick, ultra-smooth melting capability that creates the perfect “cheese shield” to trap the sauce.
- Marinara Sauce: Your favorite thick pizza or marinara sauce to add that classic, savory-sweet Italian flavor right in the center of the sandwich.
- Pepperoni: Traditional sliced pepperoni, perfectly portioned at 5 slices per sandwich to give a savory, salty kick in every bite.
- Fresh Basil: Large, fresh basil leaves cleanly trimmed with kitchen shears to release bright, aromatic oils directly into the melting cheese.

Instructions
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Prepare sandwiches by laying out 4 slices of bread. Add a slice of Borden American Cheese Melts, 2 tablespoons of marinara, 5 slices of pepperoni, fresh basil (snipped cleanly with kitchen shears directly over the meat), and top with an additional slice of Borden American Cheese Melts. Cover the top with your remaining bread slices.
- Melt the First Stage of Butter: Place your large skillet or griddle on the stovetop. Add 2 tablespoons of the butter and melt it over medium heat until bubbling.
- Add the Sandwiches: Carefully add your assembled sandwiches to the buttered skillet.
- Cook the First Side: Cook the sandwiches over medium heat for about 4 minutes. Because Borden Melts pool and liquefy quickly, the cheese will start to ooze down the sides in no time while the bottom bread gets beautifully golden-brown.
- Flip and Add Remaining Butter: Lift the sandwiches with a spatula, slide the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter into the skillet to melt, and flip the sandwiches over onto the fresh melted butter. Cook for another 3 to 4 minutes until both sides are perfectly toasted.
- Slice and Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the heat. Let them rest for just 60 seconds so the cheese sets slightly, slice them into halves or triangles, and serve

Chef’s Notes
- Why the Butter Split Works: Melting the butter directly in the skillet ensures 100% edge-to-edge coverage on the bread. It creates a much crunchier, deeply fried “bready” texture compared to spreading cold butter on a slice.
- The Layer Logic: Putting the Borden American Melts on both the top and bottom acts as a structural adhesive. The cheese melts around the loose marinara and pepperoni, locking them into place so nothing slips out when you take a bite.
- Don’t Rush the Heat: If your stove runs hot, keep it on the lowest setting. A truly great grilled cheese relies on a gentle thermal curve to bridge the gap between perfectly toasted carbs and molten cheese.

If you need a quick meal that guarantees empty plates, this is it. Borden American Cheese Melts give you that nostalgic, ultra-creamy texture that kids love, while delivering the bold pizza flavors the whole family craves.
