Turkey Meatball Casserole
A delicious and comforting casserole that your entire family will love. Perfect for cold weather days, this leaner casserole can be prepared ahead of time.Â
The wintertime is all about comfort dishes that can be baked in the oven. We decided to take a traditional meatball casserole and make it leaner with turkey meatballs. This allows for a lighter dish that is loaded with protein and not as much fat as traditional meatballs. Get this lighter comfort casserole recipe below!
Here is what you will need:
- 1 1/2 lbs. ground turkey meat
- 1 egg
- 1 package of Kraft Fresh Take Italian Parmesan
- salt, pepper, and Italian spice for taste
- 1 lb of Pasta Shells
- 16 oz. container of ricotta cheese
- 16 oz. container of cottage cheese
- 1 cup Italian cheese blend
- 1 jar of your favorite pasta sauce
Directions:
Boil your pasta shells until al dente.
Pre-heat Oven to 350 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl add your turkey meat, Kraft Fresh Take Italian Parmesan, and egg.
Mix thoroughly and form 1 1/2 inch balls.
Pluck, and shape 1 1/2 inch balls *I made about 28 meatballs.
Bake for 22 minutes on 350 degrees.
Once pasta is done, drain, and add it to a large mixing bowl with your cottage, and ricotta cheese, add spices, a and mix thoroughly.
Add mixture to a large 9 x 12 casserole dish.
Spread 3/4 of the pasta sauce over the top.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
Turkey Meatball Casserole
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs Turkey
- 1 package Kraft Fresh Take Italian Breadcrumbs & Cheese
- 1 Egg
- 1 teaspoon Italian Spices
- 1 lb pasta shells
- 16 ounces riccotta cheese
- 16 ounces cottage cheese
- 1 jar Pasta Sauce
- 1 1/2 cups Parmesan Cheese
Instructions
- Boil your pasta shells
- Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees
- In a large bowl, mix your Kraft Fresh Take, egg, turkey, and spices.
- Form 1 1/2 inch meatballs, and place them on a greased or parchment lined baking sheet
- Bake for 23 minutes
- Add drained al dente pasta to a large casserole dish
- Mix in cottage and riccotta cheeses
- Pour 1.2 the jar of pasta sauce over the top
- Add your meatballs as the top layer to the dish
- Sprinkle over remaining pasta sauce and Parmesan cheese
- Bake for an additional 30 minutes.
