Salisbury Steak is a popular dish, but it can often be high in fat and calories. In this recipe, we show you how to make a healthier version of Salisbury Steak using an air fryer and Laura’s Lean 96% Lean Ground Beef. Air frying is a great way to cook food without adding extra fat or calories, and the results are delicious! This post was sponsored by Laura’s Lean Beef.
Are you looking for a quick, almost effortless meal that is hearty and delicious? Perhaps you’re looking to eat a bit healthier? Regardless, this Salisbury Steak recipe is a must-try! It is family-friendly, and produces juicy, flavorful steaks with a tangy coating of BBQ sauce. Best of all, they are made with Laura’s Lean Ground Beef which is a favorite of mine for leaner, wholesome meals.
Why Laura’s Lean Beef?
Using a leaner beef like Laura’s Lean helps cut out the greasy mess most ground beef leaves behind when cooked. We love Laura’s Lean because when you choose Laura’s Lean Ground Beef you can rest assured that their products sourced from suppliers that raise their cattle without ever using added hormones or antibiotics and are always vegetarian fed.Â
They also go by strict USDA standards to qualify as lean. Each 4oz serving of Laura’s Lean must contain less than 10g of fat, 4.5g or less of saturated fat, and less than 95mg of cholesterol per 100g serving! Perfect for not only Salisbury Steak but also grilled burgers, meatballs, spaghetti sauce & more! Plus, a leaner beef does NOT mean a dry beef–especially when using Laura’s Lean and the air fryer!
How to Make Air Fried Salisbury Steak
Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray and preheat the fryer to 370°F.
In a large bowl, add Laura’s Lean 96% Lean Ground Beef, egg, bread crumbs, mustard, ketchup, spices, and Worcestershire sauce.
Using gloved or clean hands, mix beef mixture until all ingredients are combined.
Form 12 patties and line them on the greased air fryer basket. Your air fryer model may differ so you might need to do this in two batches.
Cook steaks for 6 minutes at 370°F. Once the 6 minutes is up, flip the patties, and cook them for 3 additional minutes. Remove the basket from the fryer and brush BBQ sauce on all sides. Return the basket and cook for an additional 2 minutes. The internal temperature of the beef should be 160°F.
All steak to rest for 3 minutes. Serve them over mashed potatoes or white rice.
Recipe FAQS
Making this version of Salisbury Steak is a breeze, but like most recipes there are some swaps or additions you can make for equally desirable results.
Beef – You can use any variety of Laura’s Lean Beef you prefer.
BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite brand. I used honey BBQ sauce which gave the meat a tasty flavor and crisp from the sugar content.
Add-ins – You can add in fresh minced onion (2 tablespoons), spicy mustard or even fresh bread crumbs if desired.
Gravy – Prefer gravy with your Salisbury Steaks? I love this Mushroom Gravy recipe that I often simmer my traditional steak patties in.
How to Store Salisbury Steak
The best way to store Salisbury Steak is to allow it to cool before storing it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Simply place your cooled meal in a container and cover the lid tightly. This will keep the meal fresh and ready for reheating on busy days! This will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
You can also freeze these patties either raw or cooked. To store raw, cut out small pieces of parchment paper, and place one formed steak patty on each square of parchment. Place patties on a baking sheet and freeze. Once frozen, add the patties to an airtight container or freeze bag. Thaw in the fridge before air frying. These will last for up to 3 months in a deep freezer.
