Is there anything more frustrating than wanting to make an Easter cake, but realizing that you don’t have enough time to do it from scratch? Well, don’t worry – you can still decorate a delicious Easter cake using a store-bought cake. In this blog post, I’ll show you how to turn a store-bought cake into an easy Easter cake. So don’t let the lack of time keep you from enjoying a delicious Easter dessert!
Why this is a Win/Win Easter Treat?
- Time saver – No need to bake a full-sized cake! Let the store/bakery do most of the work.
- Money saver – Time is money! These Walmart cakes were only $4.98 each! It would be hard to reproduce them for this cost.
- Easily customizable – Add any of your favorite Easter/R.M. Palmer candies to your cakes.
What You’ll Need
The first thing you’ll need is a store-bought cake. You can use any flavor or size cake you like. We used a simple vanilla cake from our local Walmart store.
For decorations, we used R.M. Palmer Flower Big Pops. They retail for around $1 each which is such a steal! They are large enough to be the focal point of the cake which makes them the ideal edible cake accent for Easter.
You can also use edible Easter grass, and colorful candy eggs like we featured on our cake.
If you want to add some color, you can consider purchasing Wilton icing bags for effortless application with little fuss!
Once you have your cake, candy, and decorations, it’s time to start decorating!
How to Decorate an Easter Cake
First, unwrap your cake, and place it on a cake stand, plate, or base of your choice. Then, decide which candies you’d like to apply to your cake. Above, we provided some affordable suggestions. Apply your candies both wrapped and unwrapped to the cake.
Once you have your Easter candy in place, it’s time to add some decorations. We used Easter-themed sprinkles and edible flowers to give our cake an extra touch of elegance. Again, you can use any type of decoration that you like – there are so many options available! Then, decide if you want to add additional pipping, or icing to the cake base.
Can you believe we made three cakes for under $20! I think the R.M. Palmer’s candies we used gave our cakes each a really fun and festive look. I am totally going to be recreating these cakes for our annual Easter buffet along with my Crisped Rice Easter Egg Treats!
