How to Make Kielbasa and Pierogies
Boil those pierogies: Follow the package directions, it’s easy! I prefer to boil mine but they can also be added directly to the skillet!
While they cook, grab a big pan and heat it up on medium heat.
Caramelize those onions: In a large skillet, add 3 tablespoons of butter and cook your sliced onions slowly over low heat. Stir them sometimes until they get soft and sweet, about 15-20 minutes. Patience is key here!
Add the kielbasa: Toss in the rest of the butter and cook your sliced kielbasa until it’s nice and brown on all sides.
Bring it all together: Once the pierogies are done, drain them, and dump them in the pan with the onions, along with your cooked kielbasa. Toss everything around so it’s coated in buttery goodness.
Season it up: Sprinkle some salt and pepper to your taste.
Recipe FAQS
Want to master this dish? Here are some frequently asked questions about this easy kielbasa and pierogi skillet meal:
How do I prepare frozen pierogies?
The beauty of using Mrs. T’s Pierogies allows you to either SAUTÉ, boil, bake, air-fry, grill, microwave or steam them when cooking.
What if I don’t have chicken broth?
No worries! Use vegetable broth for a vegetarian option or even water with a teaspoon of bouillon powder for added flavor.
Can I use different kielbasa flavors or even other sausages?
Absolutely! Experiment with smoked kielbasa for a deeper flavor, turkey kielbasa for a lighter option, or even Italian sausage for a different spice profile. Just adjust the cooking time if needed depending on the thickness of the sausage.
My pierogies are sticking together! What can I do?
Don’t overcrowd the pan during boiling or pan-frying. Ensure there is at least 4 quarts of water and don’t stir them excessively. Once cooked, toss them gently with a little oil or butter to prevent sticking.
Any tips for reheating leftovers?
Leftovers store well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a pan over medium heat with a little oil or butter to revive the crispy texture. You can also add a splash of broth or water to prevent drying out.
