Move over, cornbread! There’s a new bread side in town, and it’s one you’re already familiar with – garlic bread. But we’re not talking about just any garlic bread. We’re talking about grilled garlic bread, where those classic, beloved flavors meet the irresistible char and smokiness of the grill. Made with Land O Lakes® Salted Butter in Half Sticks, this recipe made the best garlic bread around!!
The magic of grilled garlic breadlies in how the heat interacts with the ingredients. The direct flame creates those coveted crispy edges and beautiful grill marks, while the inside remains soft and tender. The butter and garlic infuse even deeper as they warm and slightly caramelize on the grill, resulting in an intense flavor that can’t be achieved via the oven.
It’s the perfect companion to a juicy steak, brisket, or really, anything coming off your grill this summer. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to make, meaning you can have this easy bread side on your table in minutes!
Why We Love Grilled Garlic Bread
- Better Flavor: Grilling adds a delicious smoky taste and perfect char. We love using this butter because it helps support the 1000+ Land O’Lakes Farmer-Owners and their communities.
- Amazing Texture: Crispy outside, soft and buttery inside.
- Quick & Easy: Super fast to make, especially when the grill is already hot.
- Goes with Everything: A perfect side for almost any meal.

Ingredients
- Land O Lakes® Salted Butter in Half Sticks – I grew up on this brand and quickly made it a household staple in my own home. It is creamy, delicious, and I love the half stick size–especially when baking.
- Italian Herbs – We grow and dehydrate our own batch of herbs, but you can also use jarred Italian Herbs.
- Garlic – Fresh pressed garlic is a must in this recipe. It caramelizes so nicely on the grill and really makes this bread POP!
- French Bread – I bought a bakery-fresh loaf from the market.

How to Make Grilled Garlic Bread
Make Garlic Butter: In the microwave, or small saucepan, melt 8 tablespoons of Land O Lakes® Salted Butter.

Press Garlic: Using a garlic press, press 6-8 cloves into the melted butter. Add the Italian herbs and mix. Using a pastry brush, spread the garlic butter mixture generously over the cut sides of the bread halves.

Heat Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high.
Grill – Start Butter-Side Up: Place the bread halves, butter-side up, directly on the preheated grill grates. Cook for 2-3 minutes. This allows the butter to melt and soak into the bread while the bottom toasts. You’ll see grill marks begin to form on the underside.
Flip to Butter-Side Down: Carefully flip the bread over so the buttered side is now down on the grill.

Quickly Grill the Buttered Side: Grill for just 1-2 minutes. This step is fast! Watch it very closely as the butter can cause rapid browning and even flare-ups. You’re aiming for golden-brown deliciousness and defined grill marks.

Remove & Serve: Once the buttered side is perfectly grilled, remove the bread immediately. Slice and enjoy hot!
