Tropical Blue Hawaiian Drink Recipe
Escape to a tropical island with this beautifully colored, perfectly sweet, Blue Hawaiian Drink served on the rocks. We use Torani (who sponsored this post) Blue curacao syrup in this recipe.
I am a sucker for a gorgeous cocktail. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing brightly colored mixed drinks on ice in gorgeous, crystal-clear glasses. Add some fruit, a pretty drink stirrer, and straw and I am in love!
I am not much of a drinker, but light and fruity cocktails speak my language. I especially love anything that has tropical essences. Pineapple, rum, coconut– are ingredients that help me escape to a tropical vacation with every sip. Plus, the blue color is gorgeous!
In fact, this Blue Hawaiian Cocktail will make you feel like you are on your own personal tropical paradise with a butler whipping up this blue curacao drink.
The Key Ingredient
Ok, so the reality is, chances are we could all use a getaway, but it might not be possible at the moment.
Thankfully, Torani can help you easily achieve vacation status with their Blue Curacao flavoring syrup. Torani has been a key ingredient in a lot of my tasty drinks like this Toasted Marshmallow Martini or this Hurricane Cocktail. Their drink syrup lineup just can’t be matched!
Just a little syrup goes a long way in this recipe. One ounce will get you this bright blue, alcoholic cocktail with the crisp flavors of delicious citrus.
Torani Blue Curacao syrup is perfectly sweet and a crucial ingredient of this Blue Hawaiian.
It’s also important to use a white rum in this recipe. You obviously wouldn’t want to use a dark or spiced rum because it would affect the color and taste of the Blue Curacao and coconut. Any decent quality white rum is fine, top shelf quality is not necessary.
Can you use coconut milk in a Blue Hawaiian Drink?
Like I mentioned earlier, I’m not a big drinker. As a result, I don’t have a full bar at my disposal. I do have a decent collection of drink/cocktail ingredients, but I didn’t have cream of coconut on-hand.
This cocktail was tailored to what I had in my bar cart and in my fridge. A few people say you shouldn’t use coconut milk to make these drink, but rather cream of coconut. However, I used a high-quality coconut milk (I cannot vouch for the cheaper varieties) and it tasted great.
How to make a Blue Hawaiian…
The key is to add your juices, alcohol, coconut milk (or cream), and other ingredients to a shaker bottle with ice and shake to blend thoroughly.
This is not a cocktail you can add to a glass and stir with a spoon. Like most cocktails, you add the ingredients to a shaker with ice. This ensures that each ingredient is thoroughly blended and chilled to perfection!
The recipe is as follows:
Ingredients: (per drink)
- 1 oz light rum
- 1 oz Torani Blue Curacao Syrup
- 2 ounces of pineapple juice
- 1 ounce coconut milk (or cream of coconut)
- 1/2 ounce of simple syrup *optional, but good if you prefer a sweeter drink
- Ice cubes
- fresh pineapple & maraschino cherries for garnish
Directions:
- In a drink shaker, add your liquid ingredients and a few cubes to shake thoroughly.
- Pour cocktail over ice.
- Garnish glass with a straw, fresh pineapple, and a cherry or two.
Enjoy! Here is one for you!
One sip of this gorgeous blue colored drink (think Hawaii beaches) and you will be carried away to a tropical vacation.
