A flavorful and hearty Coney Island meat sauce recipe, perfect for topping hot dogs or spaghetti. Made with ground beef, onions, and spices: this sweet, and tangy sauce is delicious!
Growing up, my family had a deep-rooted love affair with Coney Island sauce. It was more than just a condiment; it was a family tradition, a taste of childhood, and a comforting hug in a jar. We had several A&W hot dog shops nearby that would all compete for our business when it came to root beer and loaded hot dogs.
At home, my grandmother would always make a big batch of her homemade Coney Island sauce on weekends. The aroma that filled our house was so amazing! My siblings and I would eagerly watch her as she stirred the pot, our anticipation growing with each passing minute.
The sauce was a staple at our family gatherings. We would pile it high on hot dogs, burgers, and even fries. It was the perfect accompaniment to any backyard barbecue or summer picnic–in fact it became a must!!
As I got older, I realized that I wanted my kids to share the same memories that I had as a child. However, my grandmother sadly didn’t pass the exact recipe to me so it has been a work in progress to continuously tweak it to recreate her beefy magic. I think I have gotten it pretty close and my kids and family would agree–this hearty sauce is soo delicious!!
