Cranberry Havarti Puff Pastry Bites
This puff pastry appetizer is perfect for celebrating the holiday season with adults. Made in a muffin tin, these bites are ideal for an Hors D’ Oeuvres table. The delicate, flaky crust of the puff pastry, creamy Havarti, sweet cranberry, and fragrant rosemary make for a sweet and savory snack. This appetizer is the best companion for pinot noir.
Ingredients
Puff Pastry – Each box of store-bought comes with two sheets. You will only need one sheet for this unless you want to double the recipe. Doubling the recipe will make 48 bites. Make sure you thaw the pastry in the fridge and take it out 10 minutes before using to make it more pliable.
Cheese – Typically, these bites are made with brie cheese. However, we prefer the creamy, nutty flavor of aged Havarti. It also melts well and pairs nicely with the buttery pastry and sweet sauce.
Cranberry Sauce – We used jellied cranberry sauce for these bites. You can use whole berry cranberry sauce or even homemade sauce.
Herbs – I love the piney, fragrant flavor of a pinch of fresh rosemary. They look nice on the bites and provide a fragrant balance.
Making Havarti Puff Pastry Bites
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Start out by spraying (2) 12-count muffin tins with nonstick cooking spray.
Unfold puff pastry and using a pizza cutter, slice the pastry into 24 squares. I used Jus Roll type which is one long sheet on parchment.
Add one square of dough to each muffin tin well.
Add one small square of Havarti (or Brie Cheese).
Spoon one teaspoon of cranberry sauce over the cheese.
Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown, puffy, and firm to the touch.
Remove from oven, and garnish with a pinch of fresh rosemary!
Enjoy warm!
